    Itinerary

    Fly to Bahir Dar. In the afternoon, take a private boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the 14th-century monasteries of Ura Kidane Mihret and Azwa Maryam, famous for their vibrant frescoes and ecclesiastical treasures.

     

    Morning drive to the majestic Blue Nile Falls (Tis Abay). After lunch, drive north to Gondar, the 17th-century capital of Ethiopia.

     

    Spend the day exploring the Fasil Ghebbi (UNESCO World Heritage site), featuring the castles of Emperor Fasilides and his successors. Visit the Debre Berhan Selassie Church with its iconic winged-angel ceiling and the Bathing Pool of Fasilides.

     

    Fly to Axum, the center of the ancient Axumite Empire. Begin your exploration at the Stelae Park, home to massive granite obelisks, followed by the tombs of King Kaleb and the ruins of the Queen of Sheba’s Palace.

     

    Morning visit to the Church of St. Mary of Zion, the sanctuary believed to house the original Ark of the Covenant. In the afternoon, fly to the holy city of Lalibela.

     

    A full day dedicated to the eleven monolithic churches. Explore the Northwestern Group in the morning and the Southeastern Group in the afternoon. End the day at the iconic, cross-shaped Biete Giyorgis (Church of St. George).
