Itinerary
Fly to Arba Minch. In the afternoon, drive up to the Guge Mountains to visit the Dorze people. Explore their towering bamboo houses and witness their world-famous weaving techniques.
Morning boat trip on Lake Chamo to see the "Crocodile Market" and hippos. Continue the drive to Konso (UNESCO site). Walk through their ancient stone-walled fortified villages and learn about the Waka funeral statues.
Drive through the Weyto Valley, home to the Tsemay tribe. Continue to Jinka and visit the Ari people, the master blacksmiths and potters of the region. Visit the South Omo Museum for a deep historical briefing.
An early morning drive into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi tribe, renowned for their clay lip plates and warrior culture. In the afternoon, drive to Turmi, the heart of Hamar territory.
Drive south to Omorate and cross the Omo River in a traditional dugout canoe to visit the Dassanech tribe at the edge of Lake Turkana. Return to Turmi for a sunset visit to a Hamar village (search for local Bull Jumping ceremonies).
Morning drive to Kolcho, a stunning village perched on a cliff overlooking the Omo River. Meet the Karo tribe, the masters of body painting and scarification. Return to Jinka via the colorful Key Afer market (if Thursday).
A final morning walk through the local Jinka market before transferring to the airport for your flight back to the capital. Farewell cultural dinner in Addis Ababa.
