Itinerary

Arrive and take a domestic flight to Gondar. After checking in to your hotel, visit Fasilidas' Palace, the most impressive and oldest castle in the area. After a leisurely break, continue exploring the castles and the Church of Debre Berham Selassie (Light of the Trinity).

Depart Gondar early in the morning and drive to Sankaber via Debark, where you will pay the park entrance fee and meet the necessary staff. You will be dropped off at Buyit Ras for a 3-4 hour hike to Sankaber, passing close to the escarpment edge. Nearing Sankaber, enjoy beautiful views on both sides of the ridge, where you may spot endemic Gelada baboons. The driver will return to Gondar and meet you again on the final day of your hike.

Begin with a gentle stroll through Erica heather adorned with lichen and moss. Keep an eye out for the elusive klipspringer. After 2-3 hours, reach a viewpoint with seasonal views of the impressive Jinbar waterfall. Climb steeply for an hour to the Jinbar valley and enjoy a picnic lunch by the Jinbar River at 3,190m. Look for the rare lammergeyer soaring above. After resting, ascend gradually for 2-3 hours to the village of Gich, known for its traditional round thatched huts and Muslim community. Continue into the moorland, experiencing the highland flora, before arriving at Gich camp.

This scenic trail leads you to a viewpoint with stunning views of the landscape and canyon formed by geological upheaval 60-70 million years ago. The first part of the hike is a gentle uphill walk of about 2 hours from Gich to the Imet Gogo viewpoint (3,926m). With luck, you may spot the iconic Ethiopian wolf. Enjoy views of Ras Dejen from the rocks at Imet Gogo. Another hour’s walk through the Afro-Alpine meadow takes you to Lobelia Valley, home to thousands of giant lobelias. The trail then leads to the second viewpoint, Saha (3,785m), offering breathtaking views of the gorge and rock towers—an ideal spot for lunch. Afterward, trek for another hour to the final viewpoint, Kedadit (3,760m), and then enjoy a 45-minute downhill stroll to the Geech campsite.

Begin with a gradual ascent for about 2 hours through Afroalpine meadows. Descend to admire views of the gorge below Imet Gogo. The trail then ascends to the peak Enateye (4,070m), where you can view various bird species, especially raptors. After a brief rest and lunch with views of Imet Gogo, begin your 2-3 hour descent to camp. Stop at Kurbet Mataya for an excellent view of the day’s trek and look for the cliff-dwelling Walia ibex and Gelada baboons. Please keep your distance from wildlife at the campsite.

Start your day at sunrise to explore the cliffs in search of the endemic Walia ibex. Begin the challenging 3-hour ascent to Bwhait Pass (4,200m), the second-highest point in the park, which offers magnificent views of Bwhait Peak, Beroch Wuha, Silky, and the Lori village below. A driver will meet you to return to Gondar for overnight accommodation.

After a relaxed breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, your driver and guide will meet you for shopping and tasting Ethiopian coffee. The tour concludes with a transfer to Bole International Airpor
